Main Facts: With just four completed films to his credit, martial arts master Bruce Lee redefined screen combat forever. Though born in America, Lee was raised in Hong Kong, where his father, Lee Hoi-chuen, was a famous stage and movie performer. Bruce Lee worked in the local film industry until, just before his 18th birthday, he returned to the U.S to claim his American citizenship. By then an expert in the Wing Chun kung fu style, Lee subsequently reevaluated his philosophy with regard to the fightning arts.He devised his own 'non-system' of combat, naming it 'Jeet Kune Do' ('The Way Of The Intercepting Fist'). After relocating to Hollywood, Lee became something of a cult figure, training such superstars like James Coburn, Steve McQueen in martial arts and costarring in two t.v. series: 'The Green Hornet' and 'Longstreet'. He signed a concract with Hong Kong's Golden Harvest film company, and returned to the Far East to shoot "The Big Boss', "Fist of Fury',and 'Way of The Dragon'.
Lee shot scenes for a film to be entitled 'Game Of death', before agreeing to make 'Enter The Dragon' for Warner Brothers. On July 20th, 1973 Bruce Lee, then aged only 32, died as a result of celebral edema (swelling of the brain), the precise causes of which remain unknown to this day. He left behind a unique legacy. Bruce Lee was simultaneously the best known kung fu practitioner, the most celebrated martial arts movie star and most famous Chinese person in the world. Chronology:
